Many of the strategies that can boost the effectiveness of teachers – what we call increasing the octane of instruction — are hiding in plain sight. Despite the consensus of education experts that these octane-boosting strategies have been demonstrated to positively impact student performance, they are given short shrift in teacher training, often displaced by attention to strategies that have little to no evidence behind them. In the spirit of “finding the good and praising it,” we offer videos that describe these high-octane strategies or show them in use in classrooms. For each strategy, we also provide a source from which teachers can get more information. In the interests of building a full video library on each strategy, we invite teachers to send us more videos along these lines.
